As a child of the 80s and 90's, I remember hearing a lot about children in the public eye emancipating themselves from their parents due to being allowed to work longer hours. I believe in the 00's the trend of emancipating oneself then moved towards those in the public eye who had been abused or harmed by the parents they wanted to walk away from.

I chose to cut ties with my father. I care not if he understands why, he was a terrible person and i'm all the better for it.
