I do the same when I travel.

…ensure I’m staying in an area that’s both central and lively. So day one, the day I’m most nervous, I simply walk out my door and check out my surroundings. Much of that day is spent exploring the nearby shops, restaurants, parks, and attractions, always with a mind to keeping track of the path back home.

I do the same when I travel. I also pin places to a saved Google map once I book my accommodation so I can see what's close by
