I have a similar situation with my daughter, who is 14. It's so complicated to work through all the feelings that change daily.

In my experience, sometimes I am sad about it, sometimes I am frustrated and want to scream, " It's not fair," and other times I just feel numb. But whatever our feelings as parents, nothing will ever stop us holding their hands throughout the day, every day.
