I used to have a lifelong argument with my mother where she would ask something of me with the expectation that my answer would always be ‘yes’. Once I hit adulthood I remember going mad at her and telling her that when you ask someone for anything they have the right to say no so she had no right to be disappointed, angry or frustrated when she didn’t get the answer from me she expected.
