On one hand I agree with what you are saying but on the other I believe it comes down to what stages we all are in our lives.

When we are working full time and single, it makes sense to befriend those who understand our lifestyles. That being said, more effort needs to be made to keep friendship alive after one party couples up, which is something I try to always do however life can get in the way.
