What a brilliant article Steve! I love your modern approach you take with your own daughters that builds their confidence to be who they are and be unapologetically proud of how they handle themselves.
In Australia all schools have uniforms, even the public schools. What’s interesting is that even with the uniform the kids will all find a way to personalise it to their own way.
My daughter’s head of year has repeatedly sent me emails concerned about the fact that she wears make up and rolls her skirt up to be mid thigh! Shock horror!!
Each time I see those emails I can’t help but roll my eyes. Why is this such an issue that my daughter wears make up and rolls up her skirt? Why does this warrant an email?
She is focused in class, works her butt off and is a respectable and kind girl. All this telling her off for a “uniform infraction” just undermines her individuality and shits on her confidence.
That and surely there are more pressing issues the teachers could be dealing with than the height of a stupid skirt!
