When I used to work in a shoe store us staff were expected to climb up super tall ladders using these stuck things to stack the shoe boxes. It was dangerous and we had a few girls fall and hurt themselves. The store didnt provide any safety training or give any support when a staff member got hurt. Instead their complaints were often met with eye rolls and looked upon as weak.
We also had to life extra heavy boxes, and I remember my bitch if a manager mouthing off about one employee who was in her eyes too “precious” to do the heavy lifting. The employee was pregnant and didn’t want to risk harm to herself or her baby by doing manual labour that was in fact, not in our job description.
These issues aren’t tornadoes but the workplace was toxic and the culture there was that those who did whatever needed to be done despite the risk, where seen as the most loyal and committed and those who didn’t were frowned upon.
