You have perfectly articulated what I have been thinking for way too long!

When my niece was in her early teens and got her first period, my sister in law planned a "women's circle" party sort of celebration for her where she wanted to invite all the women in her daughter's life to come and share in the joy of this life milestone.

I was personally disgusted and I refused to attend.

I never understood why something personal like that needed to be so publicly shared, and she was making a choice that didn't involve her daughter who may have felt mortified by the whole situation.
